Then, I visited another ashram where Mata Amrita was residing. She was different. It was a beautiful temple located 100 meters from the sea. I shared a room with two other people, and it was very cheap. Even food was free if you could not pay. I would say that it was a genuine place where money did not rule the whole place. There were hundreds of people living there and going to see Mata Amrita.

There were many Westerners there. And also devotees to Mata Amrita, who did astrology etc. It was a wonderful place. So Mata Amrita was this smiling Indian woman, who was hugging people. People believed she healed them that way. So there were hundreds of people going there all the time. It was not an overcrowded place at all. There were 1 or 2 huge apartment buildings, Indian style, with these small rooms where few people shared the room. There was no scamming, no thieves, just real devotion to god. Really a beautiful place.

Again the food was free for people who could not afford it and I am talking Indian chutneys, curries, chapattis everything.

I had just started studying homeopathy and had bought several hundred homeopathic medicines in Puttaparthi, where I had visited Sai Baba before. There were many small shops with vials of homeopathic medicines, and they were dirt cheap. I was fascinated with the healing powers of homeopathy because a homeopath had literally saved my life with Lac Caninum in my country a year or so ago.

So, I went to India to explore homeopathy. Those were different times. There was no internet, and only a few books were available for purchase. My homeopath had told me that homeopathy was huge in India, so I went there to learn more.

Back to the Mata Amrita temple in South India, I was sharing a room with this strange, quiet guy who stayed in the room all the time. He did not go to the temple or even eat, I think. Then, I found out that he was going to the toilet all the time. I saw him running to the toilet and pooping there several times when I was in the room. Most of the time, I was outside the room in the temple.

Apparently, he was around 40-50 years old, a Western guy from Europe, I think. He was very thin and lay on the bed all the time. All he was doing was going back and forth from the bed to the toilet, all day long. He did not cry, and he did not seem sad. He was just quiet. He saw my vials one day and opened up a bit. I don’t remember exactly what he was saying, but he was a good guy. He said he had this diarrhea that never stopped. I think he was okay with the idea of him thinking that he would die from exhaustion.

I said, “I can give you something homeopathic.” When I was in Puttaparthi visiting Sai Baba, I had a lot of time, so I was sitting around the temple, under trees on huge stones, and reading my homeopathic books. Those were fascinating. The bookstores were full of homeopathic books, even in Puttaparthi. Homeopathy was huge in India and still is. And there were several homeopathic shops there with thousands of different homeopathic remedies. It was like hitting a gold mine. I was fascinated. So I went and bought a few hundred of vials of homeopathic remedies diluted in alcohol. All kinds of stuff like remedies from spiders, snakes, and actual cancer disease, and of course I bought the popular ones from my books.

When I came back to Europe later, I had 3 suitcases full of homeopathic books and homeopathic vials. One suitcase started to open up when I got it at the airport in my country. The importing duty officer was just looking at me weirdly with a smile on her face and let me through after checking the bags.

So I read that if you are not sure what to give, give Sulphur, so the picture of the patient’s symptoms will clear up. I said, “Well, I can try that.” The guy was actually dying in the room. He could not leave the place at all.

I grabbed my suitcase with my vials and took out, I think, a 50m or CM potency of Sulphur. It was a super high potency, and I did not mess with lower potencies. I gave him one globule, which is a sugar pellet covered in alcohol that contained the potency of Sulphur. Just one pellet. I closed my suitcase and forgot about it.

Two days later, I went to lunch and was surprised to find that the guy was there chatting with other people as if nothing was wrong. He stopped me, very happy, and said that he was able to come out for the first time in weeks. I was overjoyed. I had only tried homeopathy on one person besides myself, and it had cured him. It was one of the happiest feelings of my life.

I moved away from the ashram to another location, and I never saw the guy again. Since we didn’t have emails back then, I could only presume that he was cured permanently.

In cases like this, where someone contracts an infection in India, it would be strongly suggested for they go home and never come back to India. They could get the infection again and die. The guy had taken all kinds of medicines, but nothing had helped. I think he was really waiting to die.

I recommend avoiding India if you contract a disease like this, as I am not certain if the individual I helped was immune to this type of infection in the future. In fact, I personally contracted an infection in Putthaparthi, and hundreds of others were affected by the same infection as well. Flies laid eggs in our wounds, leading to contact suppuration. I was able to heal myself using homeopathy the first time, but when I contracted the infection a second time by letting flies land on my open wounds again and tried taking CM or even MM potencies of Sulphur, it did not work.

However, I was able to help my friend from Sweden who also contracted the infection. This was my second successful cure, and I will describe it in another story. In total, I have only tried homeopathy on two people besides myself, despite heavily experimenting with it on my own.

So, this is the story of how I used homeopathy to heal one person with just one tiny globuli of high potency Sulphur homeopathic medication. It is a memorable experience of my life. In this video he is claiming that something that is so diluted as homeopathy potency cannot have any effect on human health. Here’s the simple example – one drop of homeopathy tincture diluted inside the Olympic pool can’t have any effect on human health. He still claims that homeopathy has no effect on health.

On the other hand, even the royal family of England uses homeopathy regularly. Scientists, Pharma, James Randi can’t understand that homeopathy is working on the energy level so dilution of one drop of for example snake poison in 100 drops of alcohol, and repeating that 200 times to get 200 C homeopathic potency can work.

General facts about homeopathy

In fact, snake poison is used in homeopathy many times. For example, Lachesis is a very popular homeopathic medicine that is derived from a poisonous snake. Different toxic substances are used in homeopathy for example arsenic, mercury, spider poisons, snake poisons, cancer tissues, syphilis, etc. that are deadly if consumed if being used in raw preparations without dilution. But if you dilute the preparation even for example 6 times in hundred drops of alcohol repeating that 6 times to get 6C potency for example, that same toxic substance works as a medicine because it causes the body’s reaction.

In this study, they try to find out if Mercury sol has any effect on the immune system.

The main target of the study was the effect of Merc sol on Macrophages.

Macrophages are specialized cells involved in the detection, phagocytosis, and destruction of bacteria and other harmful organisms. Also, they can present antigens to T cells and initiate inflammation by releasing molecules that activate other cells.

Macrophages play important role in immunity, auto-immunity, and immunopathology.

They used several potencies of Merc Sol, 6C, 12 C, 30 C, 200 C on mouse macrophages in vitro and in vivo. They gave the medicine to mice for 7 days and after that, they euthanized them and collected cells, and studied macrophages.

Adding Merc sol directly to the mice’s drinking water and also in vitro cells, showed a strong effect of homeopathic medicine on macrophages.

The study concludes that the high potencies of Merc sol have an outstanding effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS), reactive nitrogen species (RNS), and cytokine secretion, which are central mediators of the immune system, wound healing, and body homeostasis.

The Homeopath prescribed a small globule of Lac Caninum, likely in 200 potency. Astonishingly, my pain subsided immediately. The empty feeling in my stomach vanished. I started to feel love in my stomach.

Allow me to elucidate Lac Caninum. It’s derived from dog milk. The doctor explained that he administered dog milk because he believed its unconditional nature of a dog mother towards their dog babies and that could counterbalance the lack of maternal love in humans. I was taken aback, finding it difficult to believe. But after few days that lack of love subsided and also my stomach pain.

This is how homeopathy works..it is all about the energy in my case, the dogs UNCONDITIONAL love for their puppies energetically replaced the absence of my mother’s love towards me.

I first used this remedy for a 78 year old lady who was suffering from recurrent reinfection of her legs. She had been to hospital every 6 months on 3 occasions for about a week each time where she was treated with the most powerful antibiotics which left her drained out like a rag. When she came out on the last occasion I gave her Arnica 30c in the water dose and she takes 1 teaspoonful before sleep. She was also an insomniac and now enjoys deep sleep and for the last 2 years she has not suffered from any reinfection from her Cellulitis. I have also used it for 3 other patients also in the same age group who had been hospitalized at least twice before in each case and they do not have any reinfection after many months or years. The Arnica seems to help by increasing the blood flow in the capillaries under the skin which in turn prevents reinfection. They have however to be on one dose of Arnica permanently.

I would refer to the many posts on the ABC forum where I have been advocating the use of Arnica 6c for hair growth. The success rate has been better than 80%. I use Weisbaden 200c for the stubborn cases which is taken every other day.

Many who were using Nitroglycerine on a SOS basis have been helped by the Arnica 200c which was used also on a SOS basis. I consider that this is easily my most important discovery which I made quite accidentally a year ago when I gave Arnica 30c to a MD who was a Type I Diabetic to help cure a chronic non healing wound. He informed me on the day after he took 2 doses that his Blood Sugar had dropped drastically and refused to use it anymore as he felt that it was some mysterious medicine which he did not wish to experiment with as he was already on Insulin which he injected himself 4 times daily. I then gave this remedy to two Type II Diabetics and discovered that they had the same reaction when their BS dropped considerably similar to the drop caused by Metformin. I then prescribed 1/4 teaspoonful Cinnamon powder to be used twice daily and have 2 patients who are able to control their ailment without recourse to the standard drugs used for the control of Diabetes.

I would like to place on record that I have used Arnica every day since 1996. I can personally vouch for the fact that it is absolutely safe in daily use and can be considered a great blessing to those who use it regularly every night. Many who have met me cannot believe that I am 76 years old as they invariably estimate my age at 15 to 20 years younger than I really am. My skin does not show any signs of aging and my BP is 120/80 with pulse 65. I have no doubt that I owe my present state of wellness to Arnica.

I would not like to forget to include my discovery of Nat Phos 6x for weight reduction which I first announced to the world a year ago on the ABC and Otherhealth forums last Christmas day 2004, but I would not wish to bore you after the above list for Arnica which I would recommend you to use for your own patients who may perhaps confirm that this amazing remedy has done them some good in helping them to achieve a better quality of life than they enjoyed in the past with other drugs or Homeopathic remedies.

All I ask of you classical homeopaths is that you leave aside your prejudices about treating the disease which is the methodology that has been inculcated into you during your years of study and use my method of treating the disease, at least sometimes, when it is possible that you may surprise yourself as to how effective my method may prove to be.

I would like to stress that I have never been faced with any aggravation of any illness due to my way of treating any ailment with Homeopathic remedies by what you and others have termed “in an allopathic manner”. The worst that I have noticed is that a given remedy may not help the patient and whenever this occurs, I use another remedy which in most cases effects the expected cure.

I do not see any valid reason to subscribe to the classical method adopted by all classical homeopaths to treat the symptom instead of the ailment and shall continue to do so as I have invariably been able to help the patient successfully with the remedy, and this does not imply using Arnica alone all the time.

It is after using the classical method which I now reinforce with Radar that I was disillusioned with some years ago and it was after some tentative steps in the experimental use of remedies for the treatment of the disease that I finally decided to use this method which to me seemed to be the obvious method to be used for treating patients for their many ailments. I must admit that if I do not succeed in helping anyone to overcome his ailment after a few days, I do not hesitate to call upon assistance from Radar, and my friends in Sri Lanka and overseas to help the patient. However I am glad to state that the frequency of my calling for assistance has diminished in the recent past as I seem to be able to handle the majority of cases that are referred to me locally or on the forums.

I would like to conclude by placing on record that I value the criticism and support that other qualified Homeopaths have given me on this and other forums that enables me to improve on my own method of treatment. I do not pretend to be infallible but I do resent the unfair criticism bordering on defamation that I was faced with a few weeks ago on the NCH forum which thankfully is now effectively silenced by the moderators.

When she came out on the last occasion I gave her Arnica 30c in the water dose and she takes 1 teaspoonful before sleep. She was also an insomniac and now enjoys deep sleep and for the last 2 years she has not suffered from any reinfection from her Cellulitis. I have also used it for 3 other patients also in the same age group who had been hospitalized at least twice before in each case and they do not have any reinfection after many months or years. The Arnica seems to help by increasing the blood flow in the capillaries under the skin which in turn prevents reinfection. They have however to be on one dose of Arnica permanently.

PROMOTES GROWTH OF HAIR 30c
I would refer to the many posts on the ABC forum where I have been advocating the use of Arnica 6c for hair growth. The success rate has been better than 80%. I use Weisbaden 200c for the stubborn cases which is taken every other day.

ANGINA 200c
Many who were using Nitroglycerine on a SOS basis have been helped by the Arnica 200c which was used also on a SOS basis. For daily use as a prophylactic the patient uses Arnica 30c twice daily and is not affected by the angina any more. It is however important that the patient has his condition checked regularly.

CHRONIC HEADACHE 30c
I used Arnica in many cases that were not reacting to Bryonia 30 which is my default remedy for headaches and it worked well.

INTERNAL HAEMORRHAGE IN A HAEMOPHILIAC 30c
I am treating a boy who is now 6 years for the last 3 years who is a Haemophiliac with Arnica 30c for internal bleeding when he suffers from any fall or bump which causes a swelling and pain usually on his joints. The Arnica helps to dissipate the blood and reduces the swelling. I use Lachesis 200c for open cuts which bleed profusely and this arrests the bleeding in about 15 minutes. Prior to this therapy the boy had to be rushed to hospital for a drip with every fall or cut.

I have many patients who have certified that it works like a charm !

TONSILLITIS 30c
Helps to alleviate the swelling and pain. This remedy is only effective as soon as the tonsils show signs of discomfort. Chronic cases have to be treated with an antibiotic. This remedy controls the formation of Tonsiloliths but it has to be taken on a daily basis to be effective in this control.

DIABETES 30c
I consider that this is easily my most important discovery which I made quite accidentally a year ago when I gave Arnica 30c to a MD who was a Type I Diabetic to help cure a chronic non healing wound. He informed me on the day after he took 2 doses that his Blood Sugar had dropped drastically and refused to use it anymore as he felt that it was some mysterious medicine which he did not wish to experiment with as he was already on Insulin which he injected himself 4 times daily. I then gave this remedy to two Type II Diabetics and discovered that they had the same reaction when their BS dropped considerably similar to the drop caused by Metformin. I then prescribed 1/4 teaspoonful Cinnamon powder to be used twice daily and have 2 patients who are able to control their ailment without recourse to the standard drugs used for the control of Diabetes.

I would like to place on record that I have used Arnica every day since 1996. I can personally vouch for the fact that it is absolutely safe in daily use and can be considered a great blessing to those who use it regularly every night. Many who have met me cannot believe that I am 76 years old as they invariably estimate my age at 15 to 20 years younger than I really am. My skin does not show any signs of aging and my BP is 120/80 with pulse 65. I have no doubt that I owe my present state of wellness to Arnica.

I would not like to forget to include my discovery of Nat Phos 6x for weight reduction which I first announced to the world a year ago on the ABC and Otherhealth forums last Christmas day 2004, but I would not wish to bore you after the above list for Arnica which I would recommend you to use for your own patients who may perhaps confirm that this amazing remedy has done them some good in helping them to achieve a better quality of life than they enjoyed in the past with other drugs or Homeopathic remedies.

All I ask of you classical homeopaths is that you leave aside your prejudices about treating the disease which is the methodology that has been inculcated into you during your years of study and use my method of treating the disease, at least sometimes, when it is possible that you may surprise yourself as to how effective my method may prove to be.

I would like to stress that I have never been faced with any aggravation of any illness due to my way of treating any ailment with Homeopathic remedies by what you and others have termed “in an allopathic manner”. The worst that I have noticed is that a given remedy may not help the patient and whenever this occurs, I use another remedy which in most cases effects the expected cure.

I do not see any valid reason to subscribe to the classical method adopted by all classical homeopaths to treat the symptom instead of the ailment and shall continue to do so as I have invariably been able to help the patient successfully with the remedy, and this does not imply using Arnica alone all the time.

It is after using the classical method which I now reinforce with Radar that I was disillusioned with some years ago and it was after some tentative steps in the experimental use of remedies for the treatment of the disease that I finally decided to use this method which to me seemed to be the obvious method to be used for treating patients for their many ailments. I must admit that if I do not succeed in helping anyone to overcome his ailment after a few days, I do not hesitate to call upon assistance from Radar, and my friends in Sri Lanka and overseas to help the patient. However I am glad to state that the frequency of my calling for assistance has diminished in the recent past as I seem to be able to handle the majority of cases that are referred to me locally or on the forums.

I would like to conclude by placing on record that I value the criticism and support that other qualified Homeopaths have given me on this and other forums that enables me to improve on my own method of treatment. I do not pretend to be infallible but I do resent the unfair criticism bordering on defamation that I was faced with a few weeks ago on the NCH forum which thankfully is now effectively silenced by the moderators.

I would like to state that it is the thrill of helping someone, which as you may perhaps know, I always do free of charge, and my sincere dedication to Homeopathy, that impels me to continue in my efforts to help those whom I am able to do so with my own limited knowledge of Homeopathy which I am putting to the best use at my age of 76 years and which I hope to continue to do in the years ahead for as long as I live.

There is of course, only one proper answer to such a question, from a homeopathic standpoint, viz, the indicated one.

The name of a disease may be helpful so far as calling to mind a class of remedies that have been found curative, but the symptomatology of the case in its entirety, and especially in those symptoms which are peculiar and characteristic, in correspondence with the remedy which in its pathogenesis has the same, must decide which ONE of the class is the true similimum.

But some one will object, I cannot wait to hunt down a case like that. Life is too short. I answer “Then you will wait for your cure, and life may be too short for that”. Of course recovery may come (no thanks to us), but never cure.

Then if Similia Similibus Curanter is true, the taking of case in the entire range of its symptoms is of first importance.

Where shall be begin?

LOCATION

In the majority of cases, the patient will locate the trouble without your asking questions, as “Doctor, my head is troubling me.” It may be headache, vertigo or an eruption. It may be in the chest, as pneumonia, pleurisy, pericarditis or organic heart trouble; or it may be in the abdomen in the region of the stomach, liver, kidneys, or pelvic organs. In all such cases the patient will locate the pain, or other suffering, and we must if possible interpret in the light of our knowledge as physicians, and at the same time bear in mind the remedies known to produce similar pain and suffering, in the same localities. Or, if not borne in mind, all that remains for us to do is to hunt them up in our repertories, or Materia Medica. For instance: Is there a pain in the upper right chest, Arsenicum acts characteristically there.

Right middle chest? Belladonna, Sanguinaria, Calcarea ostearum, etc.

Lower right? Chelidonium, Kali carbonicum, Mercurius

Left upper? Myrtus, Pix liquida, Theridion, Sulphur, Tuberculinum, etc

Left lower? Natrum sulphuricum, Phosphorous

Here I have named a few remedies that have a particular affinity for these locations in the chest, and in all these cases, this is generally in connection with lung troubles, and further examination will disclose the remedy most appropriate.

If such pains in the chest region should occur outside the lung itself, it might indicate Bryonia, Squilla or Sulphur in pleuritic troubles, or Arnica, Cimicifuga, Ranunculus or Rhus tox in rheumatic pleurodynia, or intercostal rheumatism.

It is not the province of this writing to draw the distinction between remedies, which the case in all its local manifestations, concomitants and modalities would suggest, but to impress upon our minds the importance that must attach to locality .

But one will truly object that sometimes the sickness or suffering does not localise. The patient in answer to the question as to where the pain or suffering is located, answers : ” All over , I feel badly all over; weak, aching, sore and trembling.”

This might be a case of incipient typhoid and Gelsemium or Baptisia would be in place, or the prostration might be a result of some drain on the system, as haemorrhage, leucorrhoea or loss of semen, and call for such remedies as China , Phos ac, Nat mur, Kali carb or Stannum.

Still although the trouble does not manifest itself in any particular part or organ (and some would relegate it to the realm of Sensation ), I think it might come under the head of location, like absence of pain would come under the head of sensation. It is located all over and in no particular part. It is under the head of location in a negative sense and significant. Now, in either case we have made a good beginning in taking the case, and the next step is as to

SENSATION

Trouble in what location? What about it? Is it pain, coldness; heat or burning; sweating; cramping; emptiness; fullness; or any other abnormal sensation? Describe it as nearly as possible.

Is it a burning pain or sensation? Apis mellifica, Belladonna, Arsenicum, Cantharis, Capsicum, Phosphorous and Sulphur all have that very markedly

Is it sticking pain? Then Bryonia, Kali carbonicum and Squilla come to mind.

Sense of fullness? Aesculus , China , Lycopodium and Carbo veg ; especially if in the abdomen, pelvis or anus.

Is it a sense of emptiness or goneness? Cocculus, Ignatia, Phosphorous, Sepia or Sulphur .

Constriction? Cactus grandiflora, Natrum muriaticum , etc.

Cramping? Cuprum, Colocynth, Magnesia Phosphorica .

Faintness? Ignatia, Hepar sulphuris, Nux moschata, Nux vomica, Sulphur .

Numbness? Aconite, Lycopodium, Platina, Rhus tox, Secale , are prominent.

And we might go on to mention many more sensations that have been observed in so-called disease and pathogenesis of drugs. These sensations are for purpose of prescribing , invaluable to the homeopathic physician, and occur in almost every abnormal state to which flesh is heir.

Not of less importance in the taking of the case than Location and Sensation is that which is termed

MODALITY

What aggravates or ameliorates?

First , as to time. Are the symptoms worse in the morning? Remember Nux vomica, Nat mur, Podophyllum , etc

Forenoon? The same.

Afternoon? Belladonna, Lycopodium, Apis mellifica.

Evening? Aconite, Pulsatilla , etc

Night? Arsenicum , Mercury, Rhus tox.

After Midnight? Arsenicum (1 to 3 A .M.), Kali carbonicum ( 3 A .M.), Rhus tox .

As to circumstances:

Aggravation on movement calls for such remedies as Bryonia, Nux vomica and Arsenicum

Amelioration of movement : Rhus tox, Pulsatilla, Ferrum, Lycopodium

Aggravation on descending : Arsenicum and Calc ost

Aggravation in wet weather : Dulcamara, Rhus tox, Natrum sulphuricum, Nux moschata, Rhododendron

Aggravation in dry weather : Hepar Sulphuris, Causticum, Nux vomica

Ameliorated by hot applications : Arsenicum, Magnesium phosphoricum

Ameliorated by cold applications : Apis mel, Pulsatilla

Aggravation in cold air : Hepar sulphuris, Arsenicum, Nux vomica, Silicea

Aggravation in warm air or weather : Antimonium crudum, Bryonia, Pulsatilla

Aggravation after eating : Nux vomica, Bryonia, Pulsatilla, Arsenicum

Amelioration after eating : Iodine, Chelidonium, Anacardium, Petroleum

Aggravated after fat food : Pulsatilla, Carbo vegetabilis

Fat food agrees and is desired : Nux vomica and Nitric acid

All these and many more may be classified under the head of what are by some called Generals . Another class is termed Particulars , because referring to regions or particular organs such as:

Diarrhoea aggravation in the morning : Sulphur , Bryonia, Podophyllum, Natrum sulphuricum and Rumex

At night : Arsenicum , China , Mercury, Psorinum.

Chest affections aggravation worse when lying : Psorinum, Laurocerasus.

Amelioration sitting : Arsenicum, Kali carb

Anal trouble, worse after stool : Aesculus, Aloe, Muriatic acid, Nitric acid, Sulphur .

Many more are there which are both general and particular just as important to show the equal importance of Modalities with Location and Sensation. To try and produce them here would be to incorporate a large part of Boenninghausen’s Pocket Book , and all the repertories extant.

We cannot use space to mention any of the many possible concomitants (another of Boenninghausen’s divisions), which are no less important than the preceding in the necessary “make-up” of a case, but will come to the apparent.

CAUSES

of diseased conditions. Boenninghausen includes these under the head of modalities , but they ought in my opinion to be seperated, as they often equal in importance the other three.
For instance was it fright? Aconite, Gelsemium, Ignatia, Opium, Lycopodium and Veratrum album occur to us.

Exposure to dampness or cold air : Dulcamara, Rhus tox, Natrum sulphuricum, Nux moschata

or exposure to dry cold air : Aconite, Bryonia, Hepar Sulph, Causticum.

Cold bathing? Antinomium crudum, Rhus tox, Sulphur

Suppression of an eruption? Sulphur, Psorinum or other anti-psorics.

A badly treated or suppressed gonorrhoea? Thuja, Medorrhinum

We might under the head of causes mention many more than we have, but the skillful homeopathist will not under-rate any of them in his examination of the sick. And now, though coming late, we must not fail to call attention to another important thing for consideration, namely

CONSTITUTION AND TEMPERAMENT

Some would have noticed this first, and it is certain that the “personal” of the patient cannot be ignored and their diseases often present symptoms that find their similar in a certain class of drugs. Dr. TL Brown, one of the best prescribers I ever knew, used to say, that is he met a pure Pulsatilla temperament he would always find the symptoms and conditions to correspond. That is putting it strong, and it might be found that Nux vomica would be indicated in a Pulsatilla subject. These are the exceptions that prove the rule.

Sulphur will rarely be called for in a Calcarea ostearum temperament, an vice versa.

Iodine, Lycopodium and Nitric acid are three of the remedies that often find their indications in brunettes of spare habit, and so we find them in the remedies oftenest adopted to the sanguine, nervous and bilious subjects. Not only is this true in regard to the choice of remedies, but the rule holds good in the proving of drugs. The subject most responsive to the curative action of certain remedies will also be the most susceptible to their pathogenetic effects. Some undoubtedly place too much stress upon this feature in taking the case, and thus run into routinism, while others underestimate it. There is a point where extremes meet and form the completed circle.

Constitution and temperament must certainly come into the totality of the case.

This method of taking the case is the one adopted by Boenninghausen, and the outcome was his celebrated Therapeutic Pocket Book . There is another method in use, and employed by some of our best prescribers, which is also a good one, which I will illustrate by a case so taken. The symptoms are grouped under two heads Generals and Particulars :

This was the case, and was of one years standing. Before “chasing it down” in the repertories I predicted that Phosphorous would be the remedy. It was worked out by another physician, and when she got through the Generals she came to me with a smile and showed the result: Natrum muriaticum , 44 ; Pulsatilla , 39 ; Phosphorus , 38 ; Nux vomica , 38 ; Calcarea ostearum , 38 ; Sulphur , 37 ; Lachesis 32 ; Mercurius , 32 .

“How about Phosphorus ?” said she. I answered, work out the rest of it. The particulars stood : Phosphorus , 41; Nux vomica , 39; Sulphur , 37; Lachesis , 33; Pulsatilla , 31; Lycopodium , 27; Arsenicum , 27; Mercurius , 28; Calcarea ostearum , 25; Natrum muriaticum , 24.

Summary : Phosphorus , 79; Nux vomica , 77; Sulphur , 74; Pulsatilla , 70; Natrum muriaticum , 68; Lachesis , 65; Calcarea ost , 63; Mercurius , 60.

(After this work is done, I find that about the first seven remedies may be taken for further comparision. Not only the totality of symptoms, but those that are characteristic and peculiar. (See Organon paragraph 151), must be recognised. For instance if with the two remedies, Nux and Phos in the case, Phos had five characteristics, while Nux had ten, the later remedy would deserve preference and further examination of the pathogenesis, verified and unverified, would place it there. This is where the judgement and skill of the man with long experience and practice in the art of prescribing becomes invaluable)

Now I do not claim that I can with certainty always predict the remedy that will come out ahead. I remember another Phos case in which I predicted that Calc ost would be the remedy, and the result of the “hunt” placed it second.

To the skillful and experienced physician, the case so taken may sometimes stand out prominently in its characteristic and peculiar symptoms as to carry on its very face the sure indications for the remedy. But other cases will come to us so complicated that the best of us must make long and arduous study of it. Especially this is true in chronic diseases .

None, but the true homeopathic physician realises the importance of throroughly taking and working out such cases.

Rarely will a case come out so clearly that the cure can be performed with one remedy, but a succession of remedies will be necessary, and here is where the so-called complementary relations of remedies come in for recognition and skillful application.

P. S.: On reviewing the foregoing, I feel constrained to add, lest we be charged with not being up-to date, especially in pathology, that for purposes of diagnosis, the tests for evidence of disease, bacteriological, chemical, etc should not be neglected. The urine, sputum, blood, excretions, etc, furnish important signs.

But for the purpose of prescribing , we do well to remember the teachings of Raue, who stood high both as a pathologist and prescriber. He said : “The symptoms which go to make up the choice of the remedy often stand outside those that go to make up the pathology of the case.” Every prescriber accorsing to Similia Similibus Curanter understands this.

ABSENTMINDEDNESS

Absentmindedness, poor memory, fatigue and a feeling of being “spaced out ” can occur with prolonged stress or overwork. Taking homeopathic Nux Moschata 30X (derived from the common nutmeg) twice a day can sharpen your memory and have you feeling like yourself again.

ANXIETY AFTER UPSETTING EVENTS

Anxiety after an upsetting event may be expected, but we can still seek relief with homeopathy. Anxiety, apprehension and worry can often be relieved by homeopathic Kali Phosphoricum.

ANXIETY DURING LABOR

Feelings of anxiety during labor and delivery can occur with both new and experienced moms. Aconite 30C taken every 30 minutes can have a profoundly calming effect and help to promote a healthy delivery.

ARTHRITIS

Kali Carbonicum is often considered for symptoms of arthritis; pain in the lower back, shoulder blades or knees; wakefulness between 2 and 4 a.m.; sensitivity to cold weather and feelings of anxiety felt in the stomach or solar plexus. Someone needing this remedy may have a conservative nature.

BLISTERS

Blister formation can be caused from heat or repetitive irritation to the skin. Soak the area in Calendula, let it air dry, and take homeopathic Cantharis every few hours.

BREAST FEEDING (Painful)

Arnica will relieve breast pain during nursing, especially if Arnica was not given directly after childbirth. The homeopathic remedy Conium will be helpful, especially if the breast pain goes from left side to right side. Take the 30C potency twice a day as needed.

BRITTLE NAILS

Nails which break or split easily should be protected from harsh detergents and from over washing. Use a good pair of rubber gloves while washing dishes, and take Homeopathic Alumina 30x as the label directs.

BRUISES

A lack of vitamin C or K can make us more prone to easy bruising. Consider Ledum 30c four times a day for bruised areas that feel cold to the touch, or for bruises that seem to last quite a long time. Ledum also speeds the healing of a black eye.

CHEMOTHERAPY SIDE EFFECTS

Chemotherapy for cancer. This medical treatment can result in a variety of side effects, the least of which is fatigue and hair loss. Homeopathic Cadmium Sulphuricum 6C, twice a day, can help to minimize the side effects of potent chemotherapy drugs and so ease the burden on the body.

CHILDREN’S ANXIETY

Children can be excited and anxious for the holiday break from school. Often this makes it hard to keep their minds on homework and exams. Giving Homeopathic Anacardium 30x twice a day will help them stay focused and make the wait a little easier.

COLD SORES

The herpes simplex virus is the infectious cause of cold sores, sometimes called fever blisters, so do not touch the eyes or genitals after touching a cold sore. Symptoms may last from three to seven days. To help quickly destroy the virus, use Rhus Tox 12c four times a day for five days. Also helpful is a cream made from the amino acid L-lysine, and the avoidance of peanuts and chocolate.

CONSTIPATION

In homeopathy, longstanding constipation is seen as a continual problem requiring treatment by a homeopathic physician. For temporary or mild symptoms, Nux Vomica 30x taken every few hours can relieve the unproductive urging that can include chilliness, irritability or impatience.

CRAVING SALT

A small amount of salt can be part of a healthy diet, but too much has negative health consequences. Homeopathic Natrum Muriaticum, taken once a day for 7 days, can moderate a strong desire for salt.

DANDRUFF

The flaking and itching of the scalp can be due to eczema, psoriasis or a simple fungal infection. Sulphur 30x twice a day can relieve these symptoms. Use a gentle shampoo without mint, menthol, eucalyptus or tea tree oil.

DENTAL ‘DRY SOCKET’

A ‘dry socket’ is an occasional complication from a tooth extraction. Often painful, this condition is worse for touch or pressure and better for warmth. Homeopathic Hypericum 30C and a liquid tincture of Salvia Officinalis as a mouth rinse can speed healing. If you are having a tooth pulled, be careful about rinsing the mouth too vigorously or sucking too hard on a straw as these things can contribute to the development of dry socket.

DETOXIFICATION

Nux Vomica is a useful homeopathic remedy for the side effects of prescription drugs, and for vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and nausea. It can ease the withdrawal effects from alcohol, tobacco and even sugar.

ERECTILE DISFUNCTION

When considering natural treatment for erectile dysfunction, consider Homeopathic Avena Sativa which can offer help for this condition. In one study, 90% of men in the trial showed evidence of enhanced libido and increased sexual performance.

EXCESSIVE PERSPIRATION

Moderate, odorless perspiration is quite normal, but excessive perspiration can be a nuisance. This condition can occur even in winter, perhaps in extreme quantity, mild odor and/or staining of clothing. Homeopathic Mercurius 30C, taken once a day, can alleviate this problem.

EYE STRAIN

Too much reading, studying or computer work can result in eyes that ache or burn. Difficulty in focusing or headaches can also be present with eye strain. Use Homeopathic Pilocarpus 30c at the first sign of irritation.

FATIGUE AND DOUBLE DUTY

College students work hard. Mental fatigue during studies and then putting in a double shift at work. Homeopathic Carbo Vegetabilis can have a reviving effect on mental and physical energy after long hours of work and study.

FEVERS (Periodic)

For weakness and fevers that go up and down with regularity, give Cina 30C every 4 hours. This is also a great remedy for flu symptoms accompanied by cyclic fevers.

FLEA BITES

Whether your a pet owner who may have pets with flea problems or are dealing with a flea problem from another source, you can take Pulex Irritans 30X three times a day for 3 to 5 days.

GRINDING THE TEETH

Grinding the teeth, known as bruxism, may require a dental visit for an adjustment of the bite or even for a bite guard to protect the teeth. Homeopathic Arsenicum Album 30x is used for this condition that occurs during sleep. Give one dose at bedtime for five nights.

HAY FEVER

Hay fever in many areas of the country makes its appearance in late summer and can continue until mid-autumn. Sabadilla 30x suits symptoms including burning or red eyelids, spasmodic sneezing and runny nose, watery eyes on going out of doors, and itching or tickling sensation in the ears.

IMPOTENCE/HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDS

Impotence can occur as a side effect of medication taken for high blood pressure. Instead of taking yet another drug with potentially dangerous side effects, take Homeopathic Lycopodium 30C once each day. This will help in treating impotence problems.

INDENTED TONGUE

Early mornings before breakfast are a good time to examine the tongue for general signs of health. If you notice imprints from the teeth on the sides of the tongue, this is a sign often observed in someone who would benefit from the homeopathic remedy Mercurius Solubis.

INTESTINAL FLU

When intestinal flu spreads, we experience weakness, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Take normal precautions (wash the hands constantly) to prevent the spread to family members, and take Homeopathic Veratrum Album 30X three to four times a day to relieve the symptoms.

IRRITABILITY AND OLDER CHILDREN

She is still very restless, but was more so before the Belladonna. The white of the eye full of red vessels. She seems to have a pain in the nape of the neck.

From the glass in which one tablespoonful was stirred, one teaspoonful is to be taken and stirred in a second glassful of water, and of this from two to four teaspoonfuls (increasing the dose daily by one teaspoonful) are to be taken in the morning.

20th. – Much better; speaks more rationally; works a little; recognises and names me; and wishes to kiss a lady present. She now begins to shew her amorous propensities; is easily put in a passion, and takes things in bad part; sleeps well; weeps very often; becomes angry about a trifle; eats more than usual; when she comes to her senses she likes to play, but only just as a little child would.

Belladonna, a globule of a higher potency: seven tablespoonfuls shaken in two glasses, 6 teaspoonfuls from the second glass early in the morning. [The meaning of these directions, which is not very obvious, seems to be that the globule shall be dissolved in seven tablespoonfuls of water, and of this a tablespoonful is to be stirred in a second tumbler of water, and from this second glass a teaspoonful is to be given for six successive mornings.]

28th. – On the 22nd, 23d, and 24, very much excited day and night; great lasciviousness in her actions and words; she pulls up her clothes and seeks to touch the genitals of others, she readily gets into a rage and beats everyone.

Hyosciamus X’, seven tablespoonfuls, &c., one tablespoonful in one tumblerful of water; in the morning a teaspoonful.

5th October. For five days she would eat nothing; complains of belly-ache; for the last few days less malicious and less lascivious; stools rather loose; itching all over the body, especially on her genitals; sleep, good.

Sacch. Lactis for seven days, in seven tablespoonfuls, &c.

10th. – On the 7th, fit of excessive anger; she sought to strike everyone. The next day, the 8th, attack of fright and fear, almost like the commencement of her illness (fear of an imaginary wolf;) fear lest she should be burnt. Since then she has becomes quiet, and talks rationally and nothing indecent for the last two days.

Sacch. Lactis, &c.

14th. – Quite good and sensible.

18th. – The same, but severe headache; inclination to sleep by day; not so cheerful.

New sulphur (new dynamization of the smallest material portion) one globule on three tumblers; in the morning one teaspoonful.

22nd. – Very well; very little headache.

Sulphur, the next dynamization in two tumblers.

She went on with the sulphur occasionally until November, at which time she was and still remains a healthy, rational, amiable girl.

C. R. W. aged three years.

Parents and grandparents living and healthy.

Patient has been fed on modified milk which was invariably sterilized.

Teeth appeared slowly but without much trouble.

Previous illnesses : Capillary bronchitis soon after birth, for three days ; has had it several times since ; easily “takes cold,” lungs most affected.

Whooping cough began when ten months old, very severe for two or three months.

Occasional croupy cough since : two or three coughs at a time, mostly at night.

Circumcised four months ago.

Adenoids removed from pharynx, after which color, sleep, etc., were improved.

Depression about the size and shape of the bowl of a table-spoon at ensiform cartilage.

Fell on the carpet several months ago, partially dislocated the hip-joint.

After a few days of quiet appeared quite well.

At times since that has pain in the knee of the affected side.

Strength good last summer.

Had rectal injections a few times.

Of good appearance and fairly developed.

March 5, 1903.

Coryza five or six weeks ago ; nose obstructed ; restless in sleep ; tired and sleepy frequently ; grinding teeth in sleep ; was better and worse again.

Sick following a sleigh ride ten days ago : temp. 101 or 102 degrees ; pulse 130 or more.

Urine scanty (three to five oz. in twenty-four hours), smoky, high-colored, sp. gr. 1028, albumin plentiful ; no appetite ; sluggish bowels, feces pasty, white.

Was treated with a purge, kept in bed, and given milk-diet.

Attempts to give him lithia water failed.

Nasal discharge continued only one day.

Third day, hot fomentations to kidneys gave some relief.

Fourth day, vomiting the milk ; unable to retain it in any way it was modified ; milk-toast vomited in two hours.

Cooked rice, milk, and oatmeal were retained.

Fifth day, urine slightly increased in quantity, color improved, sp. gr. 1028, less albumin-granular and hyaline casts, epithelial casts red and white, no blood-corpuscles in casts.

Until this time sleep poor ; fever and rapid pulse continued.

Glands on both sides of neck enlarged when he had croupy cough ; size of hen’s egg on left side, very painful ; numerous other lymph-glands enlarged, resembling small string of beads.

Oedema of face and eye-lids noticed slight ; none now.

Past four or five days has rested comfortably at night, except that the glands on right side and the ears are painful, ameliorated by hot applications ; worse early part of night.

Fever absent ; pulse 90 to 100, during sleep, more rapid as soon as he stirs.

Tongue slightly coated ; urine gradually increased in quantity until nearly normal ; no thirst since fever ceased ; albumin absent or nearly so, sp. gr. 1020, color good ; plays in bed during the day Respiration no more rapid than accounted for by fever ; easy during sleep.

Fair skin face rarely rushed ; dark hair and eyes ; loving disposition.

Tonsils not especially enlarged ; adenoids visible in pharynx.

Bowels fairly active.

Fears entering an elevator or strange toilet-room since his sickness, fears having temperature registered or a poultice applied.

Fears something will hurt him and wonders if others are not afraid of the things he fears.

Past two days animal broth added to his diet.

Takes plenty of nourishment and appears stronger in many ways.

Has much earache or R. side, ameliorated by heat ; face appears swollen about the cheeks ; stomach and abdomen larger than normal though always had prominent abdomen ; abdomen not hard or sore to touch, but child dreads being touched, in fear of being hurt.

The subsequent reports entered on this record reveal that the remedy was equal to the demands.

It altered the child in every characteristic, restoring order and nutrition.

The chief interest is in the method of selecting the remedy.

The characteristics of the child, revealed in the mental realm, are the basis for study.

From that basis it proceeds, selecting the symptoms that express the general character of the disturbances, and there is no tedious work before the list is narrowed to one or two remedies.

He who knows the characteristics of the remedies in our Materia Medica will quickly realize that the entire case is most similar to Calc.-c.

Subsequent treatment, of course, included the use of this remedy in a series of potencies, as improvement progressed under its influence.

But dogs milk, as a remedy, did not originate with the homoeopaths; but some among them, notably that pioneer in the Nosodes, the American, Dr. Swan, hearing of its extra-ordinary usefulness in an epidemic of malignant diphtheria, potentized it, and proved it, and thereby showed its exact sphere in medicine; and, as so often, demonstrated that its ancient fame, corresponded with its present, scientific uses as revealed by the provings.

All drugs of very special and unique action, are easily studied, and well worth learning up. The polychrests, “the common drugs of many uses” will serve us ordinarily; and when we have mastered Sulphur , Sepia, Lycopodium, Calcarea, Nux, etc., etc., we are a long way on towards running, fairly easily and successfully, an ordinary out-patient clinic. But the less universally-useful drugs, of very peculiar and distinctive features, are less frequently, yet amazingly helpful. Once mastered, they romp in brilliantly every time, and make prescribing an excitement and a delight. Generally they do not “work out”, unless for one who has mastered the secret, that the best work is done with a few of the “strange, rate and peculiar symptoms”, fitting the case, rather than with a host of somewhat indefinite general symptoms, which, if politely given precedence, will often only suggest severe al remedies of the polychrest type, and perhaps completely miss the one brilliant and indispensable.

But, we must hark back to our subject, the peculiarities of Lac can. As said, it is the remedy, par excellence, of fears and terrifying imaginations: among them SNAKES loom tremendously. The tissues it can severely annoy and successfully comfort are, skin; its ulcerations red and glistening:-mucous membranes, especially throat, as in diphtheria, where it has been found prophylactic as well as specifically curative:-gland troubles :- nerve troubles; and as said, mental troubles.

The Lac can. throat is very sensitive to external touch (Lach.), as well as internally-terribly sensitive. If feels as if it were closing: he wants to keep the mouth open open, lest he should choke. Swallowing is difficult-almost impossible, yet with constant inclination to swallow, when pains shoot up into ears (Phyto.). Feeling of a lump in throat which goes in swallowing, only to return (Ign.). The worst pain is when swallowing solids. Throat feels dry, husky, as if scalded. Lac can, is not only one of the great remedies of diphtheria, but of syphilis when that attacks the throat; the throat has a shiny, glazed, red appearance, or characteristic patches, that “look like white china”.

We have already pointed out the distinctive character of its pains: they fly about, or characteristically, change from side to side and back again. These pains may be neuralgic, rheumatic, or ovarian. Boger (Synopsis) gives its special regions as “NERVES: THROAT: female generative organs.” It not only affects the ovaries, but inflames and conjests the uterus, whose haemorrhages are bright and stringy. (Dark and stringy, Croc.) They come in gushes, but (unlike those of Ipec.) they clot easily. “Its sore throats are apt to begin and end with menstruation.” The mammae are also affected: full, lumpy, sensitive to the least jar, very painful and must be supported when going up and down stairs . . . required to dry up milk”. In this, and in its sensitiveness to jar, it reminds one of Bell .

Lac can. is an uneasy sleeper. Cannot get a comfortable position. “There is no way she can put her hands that they do not bother her : falls asleep, at last, on her face” (Med., Cina.). Dr. H. C. ALLEN sums up more of its characteristic. For nervous, restless, highly sensitive organisms.

Very forgetful, absentminded, makes purchases and walks away without them.

In writing, uses too many words and not the right ones : omits letters or words : cannot concentrate to read or study.

Despondent, hopeless: nothing worth living for : her disease is hopeless ! has not a friend in the world. Could weep. Cross and irritable : child cries and screams all the time, especially at night. Attacks of rage; cursing and swearing. Intense “ugliness”.

Coryza : one nostril stopped up, the other free and discharging these alternate. Discharge acrid: nose and upper lip raw.

Can’t eat enough to satisfy; as hungry after meals as before.

Sensation as if breath would leave her, when lying down: must get up and walk.

When walking, seems to be walking on air: when lying, does not seem to touch the bed.

Intense, unbearable aching of spine: aches from base of brain to coccyx. Very sensitive to touch and pressure.

His other important points, we have already indicated.

But in his Materia Medica of the Nosodes he writes, in regard to Lac caninum. “Like Lachesis, and many other well-known polychrests in the Materia Medica, this remedy met most violent apposition from ignorance and prejudice. It was for years looked upon as one of the novelties or delusions of those who believed in and used the dynamic remedy; yet its wonderful therapeutic powers have slowly but surely overcome every obstacle.

It was successfully used by Dioscorides., Rhasis and Pliny in ancient times. Sammonicus and Sectus praise it in photophobia, otitis and other affections of the eye and ear. Pliny claimed that it cured ulceration of the internal os. It was then used as an antidote to many deadly poisons.

The use of the remedy was revived by Reisig, of New York , who, while traveling in Europe , heard it lauded as a remedy for throat diseases, and on his return used it successfully in an epidemic of malignant diphtheria. he called the attention of Bayard, Wells and Swan to the wonderful results he obtained during that epidemic, and induced them to give it a trial.

Reisig potentized it to the 17th cent. from which the potencies of wan and Fincke were prepared. The profession is indebted to the fatigueable labour of Swan for its provings, which were made from the 30th, 200th and higher potencies . . . The provings of this remedy have placed it among the polychrests of our school and verified and confirmed the clinical accuracies of the observers of ancient times.

Dr. Allen gives striking cases of its power even in what we have ventured to call “Chronic Diphtheria”.

NASH tells that he had thought it disgraceful to try to foist dogs milk on the profession, as a remedy, but after accumulated evidence, he tried it on a case of rheumatism, wandering from joint to joint, that had resisted Plus., and where it not only wandered, but crossed to and fro, in the manner of Lac can. And the case cured very quickly. Then a case of scarlatina with side-to-side-and-back pains and throat trouble, and again Lac can. scored over Rhus, which had seemed indicated. Then a bad case to tonsillitis, choking and struggling in effort to swallow, where alternate sides were worse, and again Lac can. cured within thirty-six hours.

Then he got three clerks in a store to prove it:-in the 200th potency, taken to-hourly. They all got sore throats, one with patches on both tonsils.

Nash finds it e specially useful not only for the inflammatory affections that alternate sides; but also for breasts and throats that get sore at every menstrual period: and also in mastitis, the great indication being, they cannot bear a jar; has to hold them up stepping and going down stairs.

KENT , in his small Lecture on Lac can. says, All the milks should be potentized, they are out most excellent remedies, they are animal products and foods of early animal life, and therefore correspond to the beginnings of our innermost physical nature. If we had provings of monkeys, cows mares and human milk, they would be of great value. Lac defloratum has done excellent work and so has this remedy. Lac can. is in its beginnings yet, although it has made some marvellous cures . . . It is deep- acting and long-acting; the provers felt its symptoms for years after the proving was made. It abounds in nervous symptoms . . . The mental symptoms are prolonged and distressing. It makes ulcers very red, and has cured such ulcers: ulcers are dry, glistening, as if covered with epithelium. An important remedy in co,plaints following badly treated diphtheria, in paralysis and other conditions dating back to diphtheria . . . oversensitive violently hysterical, and causes all sorts of strange and apparently impossible symptoms. For example, a woman lay in bed with fingers abducted, and would go wild if they touched each other :-not worse from hard pressure, but she would scream if they touched . . . This state is difficult to cure outside Lac can. and Lachesis.

A strange and peculiar vertigo : as if floating in mid-air, or not touching the bed . . .

Then, the changing sides : in throats, rheumatic affections, headaches and neuralgias . . . Ambulating erysipelas attacks first one side, then the other, then back again . . . inflammation sore throats do the same.

Full of imaginations, and harassing, tormenting thoughts. No reality in the things that be : thinks that everything she says is a lie. (Compare Alumina.) . . . she is not herself, and her properties not her own-as wears somebody elses nose. And so on :-we have already emphasized most of the points. Putrid mouth. Wherever there is mucous membrane, there will be exudate : a grey, fuzzy coating, like that piling up on the tongue . . . We have already given the characteristic symptoms of throat, mammae, etc.

BLACK LETTER SYMPTOMS:

Swallowing very difficult, painful, and almost impossible.

Soreness of throat begins with a tickling sensation, which causes constant cough; then a sensation of a lump on one side, causing constant deglutition; this condition entirely ceases, only to commence on the opposite side, and often alternates, again returning to its first condition; these sore throats are very apt to begin and end with the menses.

Tonsils inflamed and very sore, red and shining, almost closing throat; dryness of fauces and throat; swelling of submaxillary glands.

Diphtheritic membrane white like china; mucous membrane of throat glistening as if varnished; membranes leave one side and go to the other repeatedly. Desire for warm drinks, which may return through the nose. Post-diphtheritic paralysis.

Serviceable in almost all cases where it is required to dry up milk.

When walking seems to be walking on air: when lying does not seem to touch the bed.

Erratic disposition of symptoms: pains constantly flying from one part to another.

One day a child was brought into my office in the mothers arms. She brought it in hastily, and it did not seem as if it could live long. It was an infant, and while it lay in her arms a thin yellowish faecal stool ran all over my carpet. The odor struck me as like that I had been reading about as the odor of the Podophyllum stool; it was horribly offensive, stinking, and the stool so copious that the mother made the remark that she did not know where it all came from.

I said to myself, this is the case upon which to test Hahnemanns 30th potency. So I fixed up some of the Podophyllum 30 and put it on the child’s tongue, and sent the mother home, fearing that the child would soon die, as it was very ill, face pinched and drawn, cadaveric, and it had a dreadful odour about.
Next morning, when making my rounds, I had to pass the house; I expected to see crape on the door. I did not care to call, though I was very much worried about it, so I drove past; but there was no crape on the door. I drove home again that way, although it was quite a distance out of the way, and still there was no crape on the door; but standing in the doorway was the grandmother, who said: “Doctor, the baby is all right this morning.” Then I began to feel better, thinking I had not killed the child.

That little child did not need any more medicine. After that I had quite a number of Podophyllum cases, and the 30th did the work to my astonishment. It was different from anything I had ever seen; the cures were almost instantaneous, it seemed as if there would be no more stool after the first dose of medicine.

I used the 30th all the season, and then made up my mind that if the 30th of Podophyllum was good, other 30ths would be also, and I ought to have as many of them as possible. I made a good many 30ths by hand, and finally succeeded in making up 126 remedies, some of them in the 200th potency, and these I used. Then I procured a set of 200ths and higher and practiced with them. I followed on in this way and in a few years I discovered that by giving higher and higher potencies the remedies seemed to operate more and more interiorly.

I found that a chronic case that would be relieved by moderately high potencies would only improve for a matter of weeks, but on the administration of much higher potencies the work would be taken up, and in that way the same patient could be carried on from one potency to another.
